About Me

Hi, thanks for visiting my website. I’m Caroline and I live in Torquay with my dog, Ruby. She’s the main reason I decided to go self-employed, after a decade of working as a news reporter and feature writer for local newspapers including the Express and Echo in Exeter and the Herald Express in Torquay. I passed my NCTJ and NCE journalism exams and won a national award in the process. You can see my online articles for Devon Live here and a selection of my favourite articles here.

Between journalism jobs I worked in the communications department at South West Water on a fixed-term contract, writing press releases and newsletters among other tasks.

In my free time, Ruby and I are usually out walking around the beautiful coast and countryside in South Devon. I grew up in Kent but moved to the West Country to complete a psychology degree at the University of Exeter and I’ve lived here ever since.

I love all animals and getting Ruby was a dream come true, but before she came into my life I did a lot more travelling and sport. Although I played hockey and football for many years, I’m particularly proud to say I was part of the first ever England women’s AFL or ‘Aussie rules’ football team. I also enjoy movies (I even have a credit as an extra in the film Club Le Monde), TV, theatre, reading, music and eating out (I was an assistant manager at Pizza Express for a little while).

Although I can turn my pen to any subject, I’m happiest when I’m writing something relating to one of my interests, or an issue close to my heart such as mental health or LGBTQ matters.
